GIRL CODE’S CARLY AQUILINO TALKS TO HOLLYWOOD TAKE
It wasn’t long ago that Carly Aquilino’s typical workday consisted of styling the hair of runway models until 2 a.m. Not even two years later, however, the tables have turned. Now the 22-year-old comedian is the one sitting in hair and makeup chairs getting pampered before shooting episodes of the MTV series Girl Code. And while she’s happy to let her current job get to her hair, Aquilino isn’t letting her rapid rise in the world of comedy get to her head.
“I know how fortunate I am,” Aquilino says, her Long Island accent peeking through. “I just want to make sure I’m getting better all the time.”
Since the April debut of Girl Code, on which young lady comedians (and a few dudes) hilariously opine on female-centric issues, Aquilino’s profile has risen exponentially. Earlier this summer, the show, which averages 1.1 million viewers each week, was renewed for a second season consisting of 20 episodes. As a result of the show’s wild popularity – especially with younger viewers who live on social media – Aquilino has racked up more than 310,000 Twitter followers, which is almost double that of A-list actress Amanda Seyfried, to put it in perspective.
This month, you can see Aquilino starring in her own photo shoot in the magazine Inked, showing off her four tattoos and what has become her trademark long, bright-red hair. She even has recurring appearances on two upcoming shows on MTV2 — Guy Court and Charlamagne and Friends. The latter debuts Aug. 20. Oh, and she gets to go to the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25!
